JetBlue Name Correction and Change Policy: What You Need to Know
JetBlue Name Correction Policy
JetBlue Airlines offers a name correction policy that allows minor corrections free of charge. This includes fixing typos or misspellings in the passenger’s name, provided the correction adheres to the following conditions:
- Correction Only: Corrections are limited to fixing minor errors, such as typos, and do not involve changing the passenger’s name.
- One-Time Free Correction: A single correction is allowed without a fee, provided:
- There is no substitution of one passenger for another.
- No changes are made to the flight, travel date, fare class, or fare basis codes.
- Legal Name Corrections: Corrections due to marriage, divorce, or adoption are permitted for JetBlue-operated flights (B6/279), but the ticket must be reissued.
JetBlue Name Change Policy
Unlike name corrections, name changes are not allowed once a ticket has been issued. Instead, JetBlue allows for the transfer of a ticket to another passenger under specific conditions:
- Ticket Transfer: To transfer a ticket:
- Cancel the existing ticket and keep it open.
- Book a new ticket for the new passenger at the current fare.
- Use the open ticket to process a voluntary exchange or reissue.
- Pay the change fee and any fare difference.
- Name Change Restrictions:
- Changes of name that involve substituting one passenger for another are treated as a name change and are subject to the JetBlue name change policy.
- Transfers are only permitted if the airline is JetBlue (B6/279) and all flights are operated or validated by JetBlue or its interline partners.
Mid-Travel Name Corrections
For tickets issued under JetBlue, if a name correction is needed due to a mistake that wasn’t fixed before the first leg of the journey:
- Correction Process:
- The correction can be made on the original ticket or a new PNR may be issued if needed.
- The fare class will remain the same or be adjusted to the lowest available class if necessary.
- Name changes must match the birth date on the original booking, as TSA regulations prohibit simultaneous changes to name and birth date.
Name Correction Policy for Interline/Codeshare Flights
For tickets involving JetBlue and interline or codeshare partners:
- Conditions for Corrections:
- The validating carrier must be JetBlue (B6/279).
- All flights must be operated or validated by JetBlue or its interline partners.
- Corrections are subject to approval from the operating airline, and any additional corrections will incur change fees.
- Name corrections cannot include changes to the birth date or gender.
- Approval and Reissue:
- Minor corrections may be allowed mid-travel if agreed upon by the operating airline.
- Changes involving birth dates or gender are considered a name change and subject to the standard name change policy.
