Mustang Trek in Nepal: 17 Days Daywise Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m)

  • Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
  • Transfer to your hotel.
  • Rest and prepare for the trek. Explore Thamel, a vibrant tourist area.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

  • Visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
  • Trek briefing and preparation.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m)

  • Drive to Pokhara (6-7 hours).
  • Enjoy the scenic drive along the Trishuli River.
  • Explore Pokhara in the evening.

Day 4: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2,720m), Trek to Kagbeni (2,810m)

  • Early morning flight to Jomsom (20 minutes).
  • Trek to Kagbeni, a beautiful village at the entrance of Upper Mustang (3-4 hours).

Day 5: Kagbeni to Chele (3,050m)

  • Trek along the Kali Gandaki River.
  • Pass through Tangbe and Chhusang villages.
  • Cross a suspension bridge to reach Chele (6-7 hours).

Day 6: Chele to Syanbochen (3,475m)

  • Ascend to the Taklam La Pass (3,624m).
  • Trek through Samar village and descend to Syanbochen (6-7 hours).

Day 7: Syanbochen to Ghaymi (3,520m)

  • Cross the Yamda La Pass (3,850m) and Nyi La Pass (4,010m).
  • Pass through Tibetan-style villages and barley fields.
  • Reach Ghaymi (5-6 hours).

Day 8: Ghaymi to Charang (3,560m)

  • Cross the Ghaymi Khola and climb to a plateau.
  • Trek through fields and pass a long Mani wall.
  • Reach Charang with its maze of fields and willow trees (4-5 hours).

Day 9: Charang to Lo Manthang (3,840m)

  • Descend to the Charang Chu Canyon.
  • Climb to Lo La Pass (3,950m) for a view of Lo Manthang.
  • Descend to Lo Manthang, the walled capital of Mustang (5-6 hours).

Day 10: Explore Lo Manthang

  • Visit Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar.
  • Explore the royal palace, monasteries, and local culture.

Day 11: Lo Manthang to Drakmar (3,810m)

  • Trek to Drakmar via Gyakar.
  • Visit the Ghar Gompa, known for its rock paintings.
  • Descend to Drakmar (6-7 hours).

Day 12: Drakmar to Ghiling (3,806m)

  • Descend through fields and ridges.
  • Reach Ghiling with its beautiful scenery (5-6 hours).

Day 13: Ghiling to Chhuksang (2,980m)

  • Trek back to Chhuksang.
  • Enjoy the views of Nilgiri and other peaks (5-6 hours).

Day 14: Chhuksang to Jomsom (2,720m)

  • Retrace the path to Jomsom.
  • Enjoy the last day of trekking in the Mustang region (6-7 hours).

Day 15: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara

  • Morning flight back to Pokhara.
  • Rest and relax in Pokhara.

Day 16: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu
